Six Tips for a fit and healthy New Year!

The dawn of a new year, and a new decade can inspire people to change. Statistics show that 40-45% of adults will make at least one New Year's Resolution (the top two are to lose weight and to start an exercise program), yet after one month only 64% of those people are still working towards that same goal! A 36% drop-out rate in one month? Houston, we have a problem.

Here are my six essential fitness tips to help you stay on track and achieve success in 2011:

Set S.M.A.R.T. Goals: Specific, Measureable, Attainable, Relevant, Time-specific…… create a powerful WHY... and be sure to write your goals down and post them where you can see them every day! You are 80% more likely to achieve written goals!

Plan and Prep : plan and prepare meals for the week in advance. Schedule your workout times every week and have a contingency plan!

Frequent feedings: enjoy three meals and 1-2 snacks per day, every 2-3 hours. This will keep your energy levels high and your metabolism rolling!

Keep your cooler: Pack your meals each day and keep a cooler at work or in the car, to prevent “drive thru emergencies”
Ask for help!!!: If your t.v. was broken, you’d call the t.v. repairman, right ( I hope!!). Talk to your doctor, hire a personal trainer, ask your family and friends to help and hold you accountable. Recruit a workout buddy or start a fitness club at work or in your community. Build your fitness "dream team" that will support you every step of the way!

Get back on the dang horse! : No one is perfect! You WILL mess up and have bad days. Plan for it, acknowledge it, , re-evaluate if necessary, learn from it and MOVE ON!!! Success is inevitable…but PERSISTENCE is key!!!!

Happy New Year Everyone!

Welcome To the Fitness Diaries!

Hello everyone, and welcome to my blog! I've created The Fitness Diaries for all fitness- minded women, competitors and non-competitors alike, to share my experiences, successes, failures, and many comical moments from six-plus years of training for and competing in figure competitions. If you are a bodybuildier, fitness or figure competitor, hopefully you will enjoy and relate to my random musings. If you are not a competitor or have aspirations of competing, I hope you will learn a thing or too, and enjoy a few laughs along the way!

I welcome your comments, thoughts, and suggestions. If there is a particular fitness, diet or competition-related issue that you would like me to address on the blog, please feel free to e-mail me at fitnessdiaries@gmail.com . I look forward to sharing my journey with you!
